NORTH CANTON, Ohio - Diebold Inc. announced in a news release that it has reached an agreement to sell its Sumter, S.C.-based manufacturing plant to Porter's Fabrications, a current supplier to Diebold. Porter's Fabrications specializes in metal fabrication services and is based in Bessemer City, N.C.
Porter's will continue to supply fabricated metal components to Diebold.
Diebold's facility in Sumter began operation in 1990. Its primary function is the fabrication of steel chests housed inside ATMs. The Sumter facility also produces sheet metal components for ATMs as well as the company's safe-deposit-box product line.
"This agreement with Porter's allows us to further consolidate our internal production activities, helping us to continue to build greater efficiency and drive cost improvements within our global supply chain process," said George S. Mayes Jr. Diebold's vice president of global supply chain management.
Restructuring costs associated with Diebold's agreement to sell the Sumter facility are included in the company's fourth-quarter restructuring charges of 20 cents per sharee.
