NORTH CANTON, Ohio - Argentina's Banco Rio signed a deal with Diebold Inc. for more than 300 self-service terminals, including Diebold Inc.'s Opteva ATMs powered by Agilis software. Agilis interfaces with multivendor products and reduces the need for backend support. It also allows ATM customization.

"Banco Rio is focused on expanding the reach and quality of its self-service solutions to better serve its customers," Pablo Vispo, head of Banco Rio's operations division, said.

One of the leading financial institutions in Latin America, with more than 200 branches in 20 provinces, Banco Rio is expected to install the new terminals throughout 2006. The deal also includes a service contract for Banco Rio's entire multivendor, self-service network through August 2007.

"The increased functionality of our terminals not only increases revenue opportunities, but also makes the self-service channel a viable alternative to constructing and staffing new branches," Diebold's vice president of Diebold Latin America, Miguel A. Mateo, said.

The Opteva line features advanced-security and fraud-prevention mechanisms, including a fraud-resistant dispenser and card reader, consumer-awareness mirrors, various lighting options, a recessed keypad and display area to reduce opportunities for PIN surfing, and privacy-display filters to prevent shoulder surfing. Opteva ATMs are equipped with a Triple DES-compliant PIN pad and are check-imaging and bulk-note-acceptance ready.

Diebold's self-service terminals use a touchscreen interface, allowing users to navigate through transactions. The terminals also allow intelligent-depository-module upgrades for check-image processing, encrypted PIN pads, voice guidance and surveillance cameras.
