NEW YORK - Bank of America Corp. is launching a digital-imaging system that allows customers to make envelope-free cash and check deposits at its ATMs.
According to a news release, the Charlotte, N.C.-based bank expects to introduce the technology in Washington, D.C., and Atlanta. More than 60 of the image-enabled ATMs have already been deployed in North Carolina and South Carolina.
San Francisco-based Wells Fargo & Co. said earlier this year it expects to add imaging to 200 of its existing machines and replace 200 more with units that include imaging technology.
Other banks experimenting with the Check-21 technology include New York-based JPMorgan Chase & Co. and PNC Financial Services Group Inc. VCOM units in 7-Eleven Inc. stores also are expected to incorporate imaging technology.
Bank of America has 16,700 ATMs nationwide. More than 12,000 of them accept deposits.
