Comerica to pilot voice-guidance ATMs

DETROIT - Michigan-based Comerica Bank, a subsidiary of Comerica Inc., is piloting voice-guided ATMs for the visually impaired.

According to a news release, the bank's first audio-enabled ATM was installed in Rochester Hills, Mich.; a second one is expected to be piloted later this month.

Customers use the ATM by plugging in a standard set of headphones. Instructions are given in English or Spanish.

Comerica worked with representatives from Leader Dogs for the Blind to make the new ATMs user-friendly.

Barbara Tardiff, vice president of self-service banking for Comerica, said the bank plans to install audio-enabled ATMs at most of its 240 banking centers. It also plans to add voice-guidance to the majority of its 379 ATMs.
