HATFIELD, England - Following the report from the ATM Working Group set up by the Link Interchange Network Ltd., an additional 600 free-to-use ATMs are expected to be installed in low-income areas around the country. Bank Machine Ltd., a subsidiary of Houston-based Cardtronics LP, says it is spearheading the initiative for the independent ATM sector.
According to a news release, Bank Machine has always supplied both free-to-use and pay-to-use ATMs in the United Kingdom, and it plans to install many more sites in 2007.
One of the low-income areas identified by Link is Blackbird Leys in Oxford - an area where Bank Machine recently installed a free-to-use ATM. In its first 10 days of service, more than 2,000 people used the machine.
