Massachusetts PIN breach resembles Canadian scam

Digital Transactions: Although many details remain unclear, a security breach at a big supermarket chain in the Northeast bears resemblance to a scam last year in Canada to capture PINs and card data at the POS. Quincy, Mass.-based Stop & Shop Supermarket Cos., which has 385 stores in New England, New York and New Jersey, reported that debit and credit cards, as well as PINs, used in early February at two Rhode Island stores had been stolen. During its investigation, the company also found suspect activity at four other stores, but the company suspects no fraudulent activity at those stores. PIN pads involved in the breach at the checkout lanes have reportedly been removed.
