HATFIELD, England - Bank Machine Ltd., a subsidiary of Houston-based Cardtronics LP, has installed a free-to-use ATM in an area of Edinburgh, Scotland, that had previously been underserved, the independent ATM deployer says.
"Bank Machine is happy to provide a safe and secure ATM service to the local Muirhouse and Drylaw community," said Ron Delnevo, Bank Machine's managing director. "We are more than willing to survey other areas in which people deem a free-to-use ATM vital."
Information about sites that deserve free ATMs should be e-mailed to Bank Machine.
"Many banks seem to need to define an area as low income before providing an ATM," Delnevo said. "Bank Machine does not have any such definition in mind. Instead we look at the number of people in an area and the need for the service. We do not label areas as either high or low income as part of our assessment process."
Local branch closures in recent years have made it difficult for people to access funds without paying for the privilege, said Edinburgh West Member of Parliament John Barrett.
"I am sure that residents in Muirhouse and Drylaw will be very pleased with today's announcement," Barrett said. "Any initiative that improves this situation will always have my full backing and support."
