LONDON - As EMV (Europay, MasterCard, Visa standard) and other initiatives start to reduce levels of payment-card crime, Retail Banking Research Ltd. says ATMs are increasingly coming under attack, through crimes including ram raids, card skimming and IT/software breaches.
ATMs represent a target for organized crime and even terrorist activity, RBR says.
But banks and independent ATM deployers across Europe have successfully implemented a range of solutions to minimize security threats, and industry experts will share their experiences in London during the Sec 7 ATM Security Conference Oct. 8-9.
The event will include speakers from banks, including HSBC, Swedbank and Ceská Spoøitelna, and IADs, including Australia's Customers. Visa and MasterCard also will be onhand to discuss ATM fraud from a card perspective.
