VILNIUS, Lithuania — Penki Kontinentai Group, a Lithuanian IT company owned by BS/2, has reached an agreement with ICICI Bank to install its ATMeye software into 2,000 of the bank's ATMs, according to a release distributed March 31.

ICICI Bank is the second-largest bank in India.

"Through local partners, our cooperation with ICICI Bank has been lasting since 2006. Nearly 1.5 thousand ATMeye systems were equipped last year. Thus a new agreement certainly confirms the functionality and trustworthiness of this solution. At the same time, it proves that Lithuanian programmers sometimes even exceed Indians in the creation process despite the fact that they along with Pakistanis and Byelorussians are treated to be the best programmers in the world," said Karolis Macionis, the manager of BS/2 program equipment.

At the end of 2007, India had 32,300 operating ATMs. ICICI Bank controls nearly 3,700, or more than one-tenth of them. Lithuanian bank data estimates that there are a little more than 1,300 ATMs in Lithuania.

One feature of the ATMeye software is the system's ability to organize images that are being fixed by the minicameras equipped in the ATMs. These images are linked to the accomplished operation (e.g. payment card revision, cash withdrawal, etc.), thus the bank personnel have no more need to revise numerous image records and photos in cases when criminals or dishonest clients steal money from the bank or damage the ATM itself. The system allows automating this search according to special parameters (e.g. card numbers, the time of the operation in interest, etc.).

"ATMeye not only increases the safety of ATMs, but also allows solving conflict situations with the customers. It also significantly decreases the ATM monitoring expenditure. It is an effective means while fighting against skimming, i.e. when ATMs are being made empty with the false cards. The system could also help when thieves make attempts to steal the ATM itself. This has recently happened in Lithuania," said K. Macionis.

ATMeye system, which some years earlier was recognised by the International ATM Industry Association (ATMIA) to be the best ATM security solution, has been equipped in more than 60 world countries.
