SYDNEY, Australia — Edgar, Dunn & Company, an independent global financial services and payments consultancy, has announced the launch of its Australian ATM Market Study 2008, the first comprehensive study of its kind to be conducted for the Australian ATM industry.

According to a news release, the study, slated for completion in November 2008, will survey a wide cross-section of ATM deployers, ATM service providers and industry experts.
First Data Corp., NCR Corp. and Wincor Nixdorf/ITS, Cuscal, and Diebold Inc. have commissioned the study. Additionally, ATMIA has endorsed the study, with more than 70 percent of the Australian ATM market already committed to participate.

The study is structured to provide meaningful benchmarking data about deployment economics, market share, analysis of industry trends and issues, and insight into Australia's ATM market structure and dynamics.

"We're confident this study will offer a groundbreaking, in-depth view of ATM trends, economics and emerging strategies in the rapidly changing Australian ATM market — becoming an essential handbook for all current and prospective market participants," said Mangala Martinus, head of the the study for Edgar, Dunn & Company.

The introduction of direct charging in early 2009 is expected to cause major structural changes in Australia, significantly affecting the ATM-revenue model and competitive environment. Edgar, Dunn & Company is helping the industry in Australia prepare for direct charging, leveraging experience from similar reforms in the United Kingdom and North America.

"Based on overseas experience, direct charging will change the ATM business forever — for both financial institutions and independent deployers," said John Tait, First Data's senior vice president of sales and marketing for Asia-Pacific. We look to this study to provide important market insights that can help us prepare for how direct charging will affect the Australian ATM market."

The final results and analysis of the Australian ATM Market Study 2008 are expected to be available by Nov. 17. For more information, visit Edgar, Dunn & Company's Web site.
