ATM refurbishing is not a new concept. ATM manufacturers such as Diebold and NCR, as well as third-party players like Atlanta Computer Group and Airis ATM Technologies (formerly The ATM Exchange), have been offering the ATM redux for more than a decade. But the relatively recent economic downturn, which has fueled mergers and acquisitions across the financial landscape and pushed banking executives to search for ways to do more with less, has breathed new interest into the ATM refurbishing business. And the whole green movement has complemented that drive, says Atlanta Computer Group's Woody Alderman, as ATM deployers search for ways to reduce waste and reuse materials.
