The (Columbus, Ga.) Ledger-Enquirer reports that NCR Corp. says it soon expects to deliver its first ATM from its new 340,000-square-foot plant in Columbus, Ga.
Don Naciuk, of the plant in Corporate Ridge Business Park, says the production plan has been agreessive:
A lot of people probably would have looked at that schedule and said, ‘Very aggressive, I doubt you can do it.' But we've hit every date."
The "90-Day Journey," as NCR has coined it, included a total conversion from the former Panasonic battery plant into a state-of-the-art ATM-assembly facility.
The two decade-old Panasonic factory had been closed for two years before NCR took possession this summer. NCR now has about 125 people on its payroll in Columbus, with plans to hire a total of 150 people by the time it rolls the first ATM in the next three weeks. NCR, which is moving its corporate headquarters from Dayton, Ohio, to Duluth, Ga., in the Atlanta area, has committed to employing about 870 in Columbus at full capacity.
The start-up process also has included putting in place a supply chain of about 350 vendors that will supply NCR with ATM safes, computer cords, metal brackets, keyboards, monitors and various plastic parts.
