The (Middletown, N.Y.) Times Herald-Record reports that by the end of November, Mid-Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union plans to install a Personal Teller Machine in its Newburgh branch. It will be the first in Orange County, and one of the only ones in the state, the Times Herald-Record reports.
The Personal Teller Machine, manufactured by uGenius Technology, is a video-banking terminal that will offer the credit union's members 24-hour banking with remote tellers. Members will use a touchscreen to connect with a teller who is stationed at the credit union's main office in Kingston to conduct deposits, withdrawals or a number of other financial transactions. ID and debit cards are scanned to verify identity and account information.
Bob Michaud, senior vice president of marketing for the credit union, says the system combines the convenience of an ATM with the personal touch of a live teller:
At the end of the day, for our company to deliver exemplary customer service, it involves putting our members in touch with live tellers.
The PTM is being used by a few other institutions in Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina and Vermont.
