Mobile payments take center stage at ATMIA 2010
Mobile. It's all the rage in the banking world, at least on paper. But what does the advent of this technology in the financial space mean for ATM deployers?

That's a question the ATM Industry Association is working to answer, and during the association's February conference in Miami, a pre-conference, half-day workshop will give attendees an opportunity to hear insights from three mobile-banking experts.

Engage Customers with Strategic ATM Marketing
So, you’ve taken the plunge and launched one or more targeted offers at the ATM.  But, are you getting those 20% take-up rates you were hoping for?  Phoenix customers are. Find out five ways to drive more revenue with ATM marketing.

"The Automated Teller goes Mobile: A New Paradigm for the ATM," which runs from 8:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, is being led by Ralph Poore, chief cryptologist, and Jeff Stapleton, chief technology officer, for Cryptographic Assurance Services LLC,  and Steve Mott of BetterBuyDesign.

The workshop is expected provide an overview of business opportunities in the mobile space, as well as explore emerging markets, technologies, security and standards. An in-depth look at mobile payments infrastructures and industry standards and guidelines also will be provided. Continuing education credits for attending the session are available.

"Mobile payments offer a break-through opportunity for the industry to come up with an architecture that supports a new, digital payment type that — unlike mag-stripe cards — actually takes advantage of digital properties, including stronger authentication," said Steve Mott. "To get there, the financial-services industry needs to cooperate with wireless carriers and the rest of the mobile ecosystem to share non-confidential data, and even customer support functions, that shouldn't be competitive. This kind of collaboration would enable the mobile ecosystem to create a much more efficient payment capability than anything we have today. ATM technology, policies and networks will be a key dimension of this new payment system."
