Research published by London-based Retail Banking Research Ltd. lists NCR Corp. as the world's largest supplier of multivendor ATM middleware and applications.
According to a news release issued by NCR about the RBR findings, the majority of financial institutions in North America rely on NCR's APTRA ATM software suite, when compared with similar software suites provided by NCR competitors Diebold Inc. and Wincor Nixdorf AG. NCR says RBR also found that NCR holds the majority of the ATM market share in Western Europe and Latin America.
NCR says it has been the worldwide leader in ATM hardware for 23 consecutive years.
RBR's "Multivendor Software 2010" study includes interviews with 66 financial-services organizations in 39 countries that collectively have deploy more than 310,000 ATMs. The study found that approximately 450,000 ATMs globally run multivendor software, a nearly 60 percent increase over the past two years. According to the report, NCR holds 29 percent of the global market share for ATM applications.
"More financial institutions are turning to multivendor software to reduce costs, increase revenue, foster more customer loyalty and help their customers interact with their bank when, where and how they choose", said Michael O'Laughlin, vice president and general manager of NCR Financial Services. Our APTRA suite offers the most comprehensive set of software applications available today, delivering leadership features and a rich set of management tools."
Regionally, the report found that Western Europe, Asia-Pacific and North America accounted for 80 percent of the multivendor software installations, with Western Europe having the largest number of ATMs by region. Additionally, the number of ATMs running multivendor software in Latin America has doubled in the past two years.
