On Friday afternoon, financial institutions using the Fiserv EFT debit card processing system had a server malfunction preventing debit card purchases.

According to an article on TMCnet.com, after 5 p.m. on Friday the problem was fixed and people were once again able to use their debit cards to make purchases. The malfunction only affected purchases; customers were still able to make withdrawals throughout the day.
