Ron Delnevo was recently named the first chairman of the European Board of the ATMIA, as the group confronts significant challenges, Flora Hamilton, the organization's European manager, wrote Tuesday in an e-mail to ATMmarketplace.com.
Delnevo, managing director of Bank Machine Ltd., an ATM independent sales organization based in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, England, will serve two years in the post, Lewis said. The association has members in 22 of Europe's 27 countries, and they include banks, independent operators, hardware manufacturers, software companies, security suppliers, network processors to installation companies and service suppliers.
The move away from cash and interchange are two key issues the group is facing.
"The European Payments Council, like many of its national equivalents, is encouraging the migration from cash to payment cards and other electronic-payment forms," Hamilton said. "The industry needs to provide a very strong voice for cash and to protect citizens' right to choose."
Another issue revolves around interchange.
"A couple of European markets also are debating interchange, and ATMIA is working in the affected markets to ensure unnecessary regulation is avoided," she said.
ATMIA Europe announced Delnevo's appointment June 24. Cardtronics Inc., a Houston-based independent sales organization, owns Bank Machine.
