Will ATM fees push consumers to Internet banks?

• 08 Oct 2007

Ventura County (Calif.) Star: As brick-and-mortar banks continue raising ATM fees and other surcharges, consumer advocates predict more Americans will seek better deals at other institutions, such as Internet banks. But increasing bank fees has not prompted Americans to protest en masse like British and Australian consumers, says Gary Foreman, editor of Stretcher.com, a consumer-education newsletter. Instead, American consumers are talking with their money, moving their funds over to Internet banks, where they don't have to pay the overhead costs that traditional banks charge, Foreman said.
